THE NEXT BIG ONE: A COMEDY WITH THREE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS is a sci-fi dark comedy set in New York City in the not-too-distant future. Days before Christmas, with an ominous toxic cloud rapidly approaching the city, adult siblings Bee and Ian Mitty fight off radioactive hobos, airborne seductive lover-drones, and pheromone-spraying dating apps, all to help Ian move out of his ex-girlfriend's apartment and into their Auntie's house.
Bee is a high-ranking employee at JNGL (pronounced "jingle"), a ubiquitous and sinister megacorporation. The work is mindless and ethically questionable but pays well. She's agreed to spend her holiday break helping her brother, Ian - a dropout & activist working on subversive technologies - with his impending move.
Toxic events and extreme weather have become a common occurrence, people are so accustomed to them such that the forecast of 114 degrees sounds downright brisk. And these days only the poor, the working class have to worry about the repercussions of severe weather and toxic events. There's no reason to believe that this time might be different, and if it does get a little rough, JNGL will be there for the people, handing out free promotional holiday air conditioners. Don't concern yourself with that bloody cough or the rapidly spreading rash and peeling skin. It's all perfectly harmless and nothing to worry about. The important thing to remember is there are things to buy, purchases to make, and little time to spare.
